Hey guys, here is my first attempt at a 'special effects" movie. It's a tribute to all of the over-the-top blockbuster movies with crazy effects. I didn't have access to a green screen studio, so I just shot everything in my apartment and had to rotoscope (trace) all the characters frame by frame to get them all in the same shot. Take a look and let me know what you think:

Re: The FX Movie
Thu, October 4, 2007 - 1:55 PMJake that was a good experimental use 'special effects.' Just image what you can accommplish within a 'green screen studio,' also, I could have use your talents when I was filming my short. Oh yeah...high five to the person who scored your film.

Re: The FX Movie
Thu, October 4, 2007 - 4:00 PMThe person who scored my film is the talented Mitchell Covington. My biggest concern when making this was not having the right music to go with the visuals. He nailed it. It made everything 100 times better.
I did have access to a green screen studio at my work, but was too embarrassed to bring in a lightsaber in fear of being mocked by my coworkers. Shooting on a green screen would have cut down 90% of the post-production time. But one of the good things about shooting on a real wall is that the characters really look like they are in the environment because those are real highlights and real shadows. Don't know if I could have done a convincing job adding a background and matching the lighting. -

Sat, October 6, 2007 - 1:33 PMJake, I'm presently watching the 3rd session of "The 4400" on DVD. On the fourth DVD they have a special feature about how the Special Effects Supervisor uses FX, CG. Check it out. Good interviews.
